The buildings of Brecon are the best sources for the history of the town and they are covered fully in this DVD which encourages both Breconians and visitors to look more closely at their surroundings.
Brecon was founded by the Normans and for five hundred years the castle guarded the crossing of the Usk below the castle. Sieges, rebellions and plots centred on Medieval Brecon. The religious history of the town is illustrated by the surviving churches and chaples. By 1850 the town was an important social and administrative centre with two goals, the assize court, a theatre and racecourse; the elegant town houses of the Struet and the Bulwark date from this period. Today tourism is the lifeblood of the local economy and grandeur of the Beacons overlooking the town is the backdrop of this DVD history which tells the story of continuity and change over nine centuries.
